BREW OR CRY:
Brewers Challenge 2015
WINNER: Karl Siekart
New Format
4 Team Captains have been chosen and they are last years winner Hannah Stoffs, former EL-Hefe Jeff Scanlan, old school member Karl Siekert and club secretary Garry Puzach, as soon as teams are drafted you will be notified which team you are on and what style of beer you will be brewing.
Each Team Captain will draft club members, forming teams of at least 4 brewers. After teams have a total of 4 brewers, additional brewers will then be placed onto teams until there are no more eligible brewers left in the club. Where upon any new members joining the club shall be added to existing teams by way of the draft order.
The team captains that are chosen to face-off during the challenge will mutually agree on 2 styles of beer from the 2015 BJCP style guidelines for the first 2 competitions and will agree on a clone beer recipe for the third style, each brewer will have to use the same extract or all-grain recipe for the clone beer.
Once a style of beer has been agreed upon, it must be presented to the e-board and placed in the competition log. Selections made by team captains are based on a first come, first serve basis, and each set of two teams are required to have a different beer choice so that there are not 3 of the same beer style to judge.
If teams are unable to agree upon a style of beer, then the e-board will choose a style of beer that is in the team’s best interest to brew!
Each team may enter a maximum of 4 beers per competition, which will subsequently be judged and placed in order from 1st through 8th place. Everyone that is on a team must brew for at least one of the competitions and can brew for all three if they want. It will be up to the captain to determine who brews for which round, a captain could have the whole team brew and then select the best beers to move into that round but remember that each brewer on a team must be judged in one of the rounds.
Winning team after 3 rounds will face off against each other and the top 3 or 4 top scoring individual brewers (determined by the E-Board) for the grand prize and bragging rights of 2015 Brewer of the Year for the SPWH!

There were quite a few who made the cut for the final round, only five were brave enough to take on the American Strong Ale (2015 BJCP category 22b). Garry Puzzach and Hannah Stoffs brewed up some fantastic contenders, but there was one beer that was a clear winner. Karl Siekart’s beer bested everyone, reigning supreme as the 2015 Brew or Cry Champion.
