BREW OR CRY: \u00a0Brewers Challenge 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year we’re continuing with the format set forth in 2017, giving brewers\u00a0a few styles\u00a0from which to choose.\u00a0 We’ve made a few minor tweaks to ensure tables aren’t stuck judging 15 beers, nor a 3rd of 3 entry scoring the same as 3rd of 15.\u00a0 Please read the updated rules below.<\/p>\n

The Rules<\/a><\/strong>
\n\u2022 There will be 3 regular rounds of competition, with\u00a03 styles in each.
\n\u2022 Limit\u00a0TWO entries per team, per category, per round.
\n<\/strong>(3 teams X 2 entries = 6 maximum entries to be judged)<\/em>
\n\u2022 Each team will be responsible for at least one entry into each category, for rounds 1-3.
\n\u2022 The 4th and final round will be for the winning team and winners of the Mini Best in Show*
\n\u2022 Collaboration brews:
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0-You must declare the head brewer, only they will receive individual points for this beer
\n<\/i>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0-Co-brewers cannot judge in a category in which they brewed\/assisted<\/em>
\n<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0-You must declare if you were involved in brewing any collaborations
\n<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0-If a team has only one entry in a category, but all individual brewers have submissions,
\n<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0the team can submit a team-collaboration brew, which will receive TEAM points scored only.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 Styles are based on the\u00a02015 BJCP Guidelines<\/a>.
\n\u2022 Brewers must submit 32-36oz. of beer for\u00a0competition nights to ensure enough for judging process. \u00a0Bring extra if you want to share with everyone.
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Ideal packaging for your entries will be in non-distinct bottles, growlers (ie. no stainless steel, branded etc..)
\n<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0–\u00a0TWO\u00a022oz generic brown glass bomber,\u00a0<\/em>THREE\u00a012oz generic brown glass bottles,\u00a0<\/em>ONE\u00a032oz swingtop brown glass bottle\u00a0<\/em>or\u00a0<\/em>ONE\u00a032oz growler<\/em><\/p>\n

**The Brew or Cry Challenge is, and always has been voluntary. We hope that you want to have some fun, and that this new format is something that interests all members enough to participate.<\/em><\/p>\n

Judging<\/strong>
\nYou will be seated with others who brewed the same style as you. \u00a0If you collaborated, please make board members aware if there is a potential that a brew you were directly involved in, might be judged by you. \u00a0We will reassign you to a non-conflicting category for judging night as you are not permitted to judge in a category you brewed in.<\/p>\n

Styles<\/strong>
\nThe board has chosen these\u00a09\u00a0common styles for the 2019 competition. \u00a0This provides a fair amount of choice to all competitors, in each round. \u00a0The selection of styles increase in difficulty each round, while still leaving options for brewers of all skill levels.<\/p>\n\n<\/colgroup>\n<\/colgroup>\n<\/colgroup>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The Final Round<\/strong>
\nThe winning team after 3 rounds will disband to compete against each other for the grand prize and\u00a0bragging rights as the \u00a02019 Brewer of the Year for the SPWH! \u00a0Mini Best in Show\u00a0winners will also\u00a0invited to final round of the BOC.<\/p>\n

*If a brewer on the winning team failed to enter a single beer in 2017 competition, they will be excluded from the final round.<\/em><\/p>\n

The winner of Round 4 will go on to brew that beer at\u00a0One Barrel Brewing Co.<\/a>\u00a0and have their beer released during\u00a0Madison Craft Beer Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Team Points<\/strong><\/p>\n

Team points are calculated based on the average of the top three scores for each team.\u00a0 The team with the highest total through the first three rounds will be moved onto the fourth round to compete against each other and the mini best of show winner from each round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
